BYU loses by one point to Saint Mary’s

On January 28 the BYU men’s Cougars played Saint Mary’s Gaels at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah.

Both teams showed talent. BYU guard, Dallin Hall, had a career-high 23-point game. The Cougars dropped a single point against the Gaels. The Gaels brought home the victory.

First Half

Out of the first serval attempted field goals, the Cougars failed to score. For over five minutes, the Gaels had a 12-0 advantage. The Gaels’ Alex Ducas had an eight-point performance with a 75% three-point shooting percentage.

After the first-half timeout, neither team managed to score.

The Cougars’ offense had improved when the second timeout occurred at seven minutes. The Cougars returned for the final five minutes and tied the game in the first half, 25-25.

Second Half

Early in the second half, the Gaels led the game by seven points. The Cougars only scored two field goals in the first ten minutes. The Cougars made five out of seven attempted field goals after the first timeout of the second half.

In the last few minutes of the game, the Cougars and the Gaels engaged in a seesaw struggle. The Gaels won the game thanks to the final two points scored in the last three seconds by Aidan Mahaney.

The Gaels defeated the Cougars 57–56.

On February 2 at 7:00 p.m., the Cougars will host the match between Loyola Marymount. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
