Everyone is invited to volunteer at the Eagle Park community cleanup on May 23. It starts at 5 p.m. and will go to 7 p.m. Participants are encouraged to come when they can. Volunteers are also invited to bring gloves, a rake and family or a friend.

The volunteers will be collecting and bagging foliage, raking overgrown vines out of the trees and shoveling fire pit ashes out so they are ready for the upcoming camping season.

“The city really appreciates all of the volunteer work because we could not do it without volunteers,” said Natalie Powell, a director of the event. “It’s just too big. There’s too much park property to maintain with just our staff.”

Volunteers will meet at the picnic tables at 5 p.m. to divide into groups. Each group will cover a campsite.

“That’s how you meet other people that share the same activities that you like to do,” Powell said. “So, if you’re outside and want to be camping and hiking and that type of thing, then this is an event where you’re gonna find others that also like to be camping and hiking. You’re gonna brush shoulders with those and find friends to hang out with in the future.”

Eagle Park is located off Eagle Park Rd., just a five-minute drive from campus. It has 24 campsites along the Teton River with access to drinking water and bathrooms with the Tenderfoot mountain bike trail winding through the park.

Water bottles and snacks will be provided.

“We love and appreciate all who come to help with that,” said Mayor Jerry Merrill in his April Mayors Message.

Powell said that Eagle Park clean-up day is a Rexburg tradition, and groups often go out to celebrate with ice cream after.

One can just show up or find contact information and volunteer at JustServe.org.

There is a $10 fee for overnight camping at Eagle Park, but all other day use is free. No RVs or camping trailers are allowed.
