According to a Madison School District Facebook post, two Madison High School students were injured when a firework was thrown into their prom event at the Brickyard Event Center in Ammon Saturday night.

The students suffered minor abrasions in the incident, which occurred in the venue’s patio area. There were no other injuries reported.

The incident is being investigated, according to Sgt. Bryan Lovell of the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office. The incident was reported shortly after 11 p.m. by a Rexburg police officer at the prom.

Authorities believe the perpetrator or was outside the venue at the time of the incident. There was no ambulance response, and no one was taken to the hospital, according to Lovell.

According to EastIdahoNews.com, the Rexburg Police Department, including Assistant Chief Gary Hagen, is assisting in the investigation.

“Someone threw a firework into the venue. It went off and a few students got burned. It was quite traumatizing and at first, most students thought it was gunshots,” said Marisa Lyn Bone, the elder sister of a Madison student present during the incident.

“The safety of our students is our number one priority. We want to thank our administrators and local law enforcement for their efforts to keep students safe,” the school district said in a post.
