BYU-Idaho celebrated Star Wars Day with discounts on merchandise, musical events, photo opportunities with cosplayers, lightsaber battles and more. The student activities committee hosted a special event to celebrate Star Wars day — a large-scale game of laser tag that supported up to 40 players.
Alex Garcia, one of the attendees of the activity, left with sweat on his forehead and a smile on his face.
“I’m not a Star Wars fan, but I had a lot of fun,” Garcia said.
Students of all kinds came together to play laser tag in order to become the best team of bounty hunters in the galaxy, or to crush the rebellion under the boots of the empire.
Joseph Sorensen, who was in charge of the activity, has been a member of the student activities committee for a year. He has planned and hosted many events on campus.
“You get to play Call of Duty, but you get your exercise in,” Sorensen said.
The laser tag event has over 50 game modes to play, and they make about three new game modes every week. These game modes are based on multiplayer games such as Call of Duty, Star Wars: Battlefront and Halo.
“It’s as team-building as you as you make it,” Sorensen said. “I have seen the teams that are more coordinated win by a landslide compared to those who just run around aimlessly.”
The committee is in the process of having a website developed for the laser tag games. The best way to learn more is to show up. For information on dates and times, see the flyers posted around campus.
