A missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints remains in stable condition after he was stabbed Friday in Colombia.
Elder Maxwell Fish, 19, of San Antonio, Texas was stabbed in the neck Friday morning while he and his companion were robbed on the street in Popayan, Colombia according to Church News.
His companion was unharmed but Elder Fish was put into a medically induced coma and underwent multiple surgeries which included a collarbone replacement and repairs to his veins and lungs, according to a Facebook post from his mother, Nichole Fish. He is now in stable condition and will be awoken slowly from his coma.
Elder Fish was treated by doctors in Popayan. Missionaries in the area, part of the Colombia Cali Mission, were relocated for their safety.
“Obviously God is in each detail and we will go step by step trusting His plan,” said Fish’s mother in a Facebook post Sunday.
