“The advice I have for beginners is the same philosophy that I have for runners of all levels of experience and ability: consistency, a sane approach, moderation and making your running an enjoyable, rather than dreaded, part of your life,” said four-time Boston Marathon winner Bill Rodgers in the Marathon Handbook

When people start the new year, a lot of them head to the gym, get on a treadmill and lift a few weights. However, without guidance, it can be hard to stay focused. The BYU-Idaho Runners Club is there to help novice runners stick to their new year’s resolutions.

Runners Club meets every Friday at 8 a.m. in the BYU-Idaho Center and consists of a group of people whose main goal is to help each other improve cardio and learn to be effective runners.

“Basically we meet Fridays at the indoor track at 8 a.m., anyone is welcomed whether you’re an experienced runner or first-timer you’ll show up. If you’re a first-timer, I will have you write down your name and phone to add you to the group chat. Then depending on whatever your goals are we can do easy runs, we can do speed work, we can do regular workouts,” said Sadie Stone, the club leader.

Some people who are attending, like Haley Lakin, have ambitious goals that they want to meet.

“I want to get to the distance of a half marathon and then beat my time for six miles — we will see,” Lakin said.

When it comes to going to school, studying and staying fit, Runners Club is an option students can consider. The club is a way to meet new people and make friends.

For those looking for a way to stay motivated, Runners Club might be something to look into.
