In the early 2000s, when Rick’s College had transitioned to BYU-Idaho, Rexburg had a population of about 17.7 thousand people. The town consisted of mostly farmland and a couple of businesses.
In 2021, the population had grown to 35.3 thousand. It has continued to grow in the past couple of years as more students have come to BYU-I.
Even though the city of Rexburg has built new parks, apartment complexes and stores, residents still want more.
The city of Rexburg launched a plan to understand what the town is in need of. There are three phases to this plan.
The first phase took place from Oct. 12 to Dec. 31, 2022. The main purpose of this phase was to brainstorm ideas about what Rexburg is missing.
Between Jan. 1-14, the city reviewed community submissions — this was the second phase of the plan.
According to a bar graph, posted on the Rexburg page, the community’s main concerns are preserving rural value, bike paths and recreational family events.
In the last phase of the plan, a short, 5-minute survey was created from the top six concerns found in phase two. This survey asks the community to rate which concerns should be top priority. The survey also asks the community if there are any additional concerns, not mentioned previously.
