Brigham Young University-Idaho students will compete for prizes at the Slam Dunk Championships. The championship event will be on Friday, Feb. 17.
Competitors are made up of students who auditioned to participate. Auditions are being held on Feb. 7 and 8 from 6-10 p.m. in the BYU-Idaho Center.
“The night itself is broken down into three main events,” said Megan Kerr, events coordinator for campus recreations. “The skills challenge, the 3-point competition and the slam dunk contest.”
Winners take home prizes.
According to Kerr, students who participate will all receive a prize, and the winner of the slam dunk challenge will win a gold leather indoor NBA Wilson Basketball.
Prizes at this event aren’t just for challenge winners and participants. Audience members have the opportunity to win Chick-Fil-A fries during a half-court shot challenge.
“We will be pulling raffles throughout the entire event and audience members get the chance to win Bluetooth speakers, Nike air basketballs and even an NBA hoodie of a team of their choice,” Kerr said.
Proform Airborne, a kid’s jump roping group, will perform during half-time.
