A DNA analyst testified in court Monday that hair belonging to Lori Vallow Daybell was found on duct tape with JJ Vallow’s body.
Keeley Coleman, a senior DNA analyst at Bode Technology in Virginia, testified Monday morning in Ada County District Court that in May 2022, Rexburg police sent her a sample of hair attached to a piece of duct tape that was found on a plastic bag wrapped around JJ Vallow’s body when he was found dead in Chad Daybell’s yard nearly three years ago.
When tested against three known DNA samples, belonging to Lori Vallow Daybell, Melanie Gibb and Tylee Ryan, it matched the sample belonging to Vallow Daybell.
Vallow Daybell, along with her husband, Chad Daybell, are accused of first-degree murder in the September 2019 deaths of two of her children: 7-year-old JJ, and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan. They are also charged with murder for the October 2019 death of Chad Daybell’s first wife, Tammy. Vallow Daybell lived in Rexburg, Idaho from August 2019 until November 2019.
At the time JJ was unburied he was found wrapped in plastic bag. On Wednesday Forensic Pathologist Dr. Garth Warren told the jury that JJ’s head was covered in a white plastic bag with duct tape over his mouth. His arms and ankles were bound as well. He testified that JJ died from asphyxiation incident to the plastic bag and the duct tape.
The bag was wrapped around his head multiple times and the duct tape was wrapped around his face from his mouth down to his neck. He also said it appeared that he attempted to scratch the bag off his head as there were scratch marks on the back of his neck.
