The David O. McKay Library is one of the central buildings on campus, and it has a wide variety of options to help students in their studies.
The library allows students to check out physical and electronic books, set up one-on-one or group appointments with other students skilled in their fields and rent available equipment. The library, the staff and all its resources are waiting to help improve study sessions.
“We do more than just greeting and checking out books,” said Beth Wehrhahn, a senior majoring in professional studies.
The Mac Lab
The Mac Lab is one of the many in-person places one can do homework. Students can use, free of charge, all the Adobe products on Apple computers, 3D printer machines and some VR equipment, which is the latest addition.
“We’re all beginners at some point,” said Rebecca Dorny, the manager of the Mac Lab. “We are more than glad to help you and any questions that you have, the lab assistants and librarians will be more than glad to help.”
The Presentation Practice Center
Another one of the in-person places students can visit is the Presentation Practice Center.
The PPC is available to help with speeches, visual presentations and more. The PPC is not very well-known due to the fact that the only people who attend are typically people in public speaking classes.
“This is a place that we want you to come and build confidence,” said Spencer Haacke, the director of the PPC. “If we can get you to leave with greater confidence for public speaking, then our mission is complete.”
The library also offers study rooms that students can rent out so a group of people can study in peace. The library has plenty of opportunities to help with every study need.
“You are potentially missing out on things that can help you with your studies,” said Chris Olsen, the university librarian. “If students rely on just the open web, they are missing out on a lot of opportunities to improve their educational abilities.”
The hours of operation, location and resources can be found on the McKay Library website.
